Regional Housing Study and Action Group Meeting
12:00-2:00pm, BPI Conference Room, 212 Palmer House Office Tower, 17 East Monroe. Agenda: 1. General Announcements and Short Reports: Participant updates and announcements. 2. Reinventing the Chicago Housing Authority: Last May, HUD took over administration of the CHA, promising sweeping change and major improvements in organization and efficiency. The proposed development of mixed-income housing, community facilities and commercial development at Cabrini-Green is but one example of the extraordinary transformation at CHA. Joseph Shuldiner, CHA Executive Director, will report on these and other efforts. 3. Suggestions and Topics for Future Meetings

RHSAG is an informal forum for individuals and organizations interested in housing policy issues relating to equality and affordability. RHSAG is affiliated with the Policy Research Action Group. Meetings are held on the SECOND TUESDAY of each month at BPI (Business and Professional People in the Public Interest) 17 East Monroe (the Palmer House), Suite 212. Fighting the Global Sweatshop: A Dinner with Ana Maria Romero and Dan Dale
5:00-7:30pm, Resurrection Lutheran Church, 3303 N. Seminary. $5-$10 sliding scale benefitting grassroots organizing in El Salvador. Ana Maria Romero, Sweat Shop Worker and Labor Organizer from El Salvador, and Dan Dale, Central American Religious and Solidarity Activist. Ms. Romero worked in the GABO maquiladora, a garment factory which produced clothing for Sears-Roebuck located in the US-built San Marcos Free Trade Zone. Working conditions were harsh, but workers organized a strong union. However, in August, the factory owner illegally shut down the factory and fled the country, owing back wages and leaving the mostly young women workers without a job. But union and workers have not given up! They are fighting back and are seeking national and international support for their struggle. History & Politics of Rhythm and Blues
